Sapphireâ„¢ Work Assessment System

The Sapphire™ Work Assessment System was developed with economy of space utilization and user functionality in mind. The wall mounted version of the Sapphire™ is simple to use, and objectively measure 29 physical demands, 15 of which are defined by the US and Canadian governments. The Sapphire™ measures 8 isometric strength areas (4 lifting strength functions-knuckle, bench, modified ankle, shoulder, 4 push/pull strength functions-cart push, cart pull, shoulder push, shoulder pull). It measures 2 ISO defined dynamic strength areas (bench height and above shoulder lift). It measures carrying performance. It measure 6 functional work postures (stooping, kneeling, crouching, forward reach, overhead reach, standing). It measures handling and fingering performance as well as grip strength, lateral pinch strength, 3-point pinch strength, forearm pronation and supination strength and wrist flexion and extension strength. The Sapphire™ uses approximately 12 square feet of floor space. The floor measures 24” by 42” and a 48” by 30” test table is provided for the touch screen computer, printer and upper extremity test components. The system uses a simple monopole that attaches to any sturdy wall. The monopole has a shuttle system that allows each of the static strength, dynamic strength and posture components to be quickly attached for use.

The three test modules shown in these pictures connect to the wall mount monopole shuttle, and are installed or changed in seconds. Each module connects to the touch screen computer via USB cable interface. The upper extremity fourth module components (see the upper extremity version information sheet) are used on a provided test table containing the touch screen computer and color printer. Together, these four test modules provide a comprehensive appraisal of the evaluee’s work capacity. Standardized Detail Reports record the actual start and end test times, isometric performance graphs; test data and whether the evaluee stopped a test prematurely. It also presents graphical representation of the evaluee’s subjective reports of discomfort and fatigue. The Summary Report allows the user to consolidate all of the evaluee’s completed test performances into one easy to read presentation.

A new Job Comparison Report provides a variety of report options that include an ADA “meets standard” option as well as direct performance comparisons much like the original ERGOS® performance versus job requirement format. Also included in the system is a Work Day Capacity Report that uses either the U.S. DOT or Canadian NOC physical demands definitions. The user can chose to print any or all of the above reports as needed and can choose which test data is to be included in the reports. The Sapphire™ allows the user to insert an electronic signature for each CESE™ certified evaluator. Reports can be encrypted for electronic transfer as required by HIPPA rules.
