ERGOS Work Simulator

Panel #2 - Whole Body Range of Motion Component

Measurement Factors

  • Overhead Reaching -- Hyper-extension of the spine, with elbows parallel to shoulders and hands working overhead. Essential tasks identified in the Department of Labor (DOL) Job Analysis format as extending the arms and hands in any direction.
  • Forward Reaching -- Neutral position while standing, performing upper extremity work manipulation. Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as extending the arms and hands in any direction.
  • Stooping -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as bending the legs at the knees to come to rest on the knee or knees.
  • Balancing -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching.
  • Handling -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands (fingering not involved).
  • Fingering -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as picking, pinching, or otherwise working with the fingers primarily (rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling).
  • Seeing -- Essential tasks identified in the DOL Job Analysis format as obtaining impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects.

The ERGOS® Panel #2 measures industrial whole body range of motion. Biomechanics is structured and measured through systematic analysis of the worker while demonstrating in excess of 100 movements and work activities.

Whole Body Range of Motion Testing

The ERGOS® Unit #2 is the most comprehensive, reproducible, and valid assessment o the whole body industrial range of motion for planning work therapy and return to work. Control for measurement without restricting body movement enables therapists to observe and record body compensation techniques of the worker.

The worker performs a series of work tasks while on Unit #2 that require simplistic cognitive processing, creating an environment where normal body compensation occurs. Outcome performance scores (Methods-Time Measurement -- MTM) then determine whether specific injury-related limitations or de-conditioning factors reduce functional ability to perform normal job tasks. Therapists' behavioral and clinical observations of the worker during testing provide ample opportunity to compare biomechanic movements from one work task to another.

Work Therapy

ERGOS® features the unique ability to provide both functional capacity testing and work hardening/work conditioning. The therapist-controlled procedure establishes work routines, monitored and controlled through computer instructions, to establish self-paces or job-paced (Dictionary of Occupational Titles -- DOT -- occasional, frequent, constant) regimens. Objective scoring enables a referral source to monitor progress toward full recovery and return to work.
