Simwork Systems developed the
ERGOS Work Simulator by listening
to industry, by understanding its needs and frustrations.
The ever-changing health care
and workers' compensation market and the introduction of ADA have made it
difficult, at best, for employers to do what is right and necessary. Simwork
System's experience in these areas, and the far-reaching vision of the ERGOS
Work Simulator can help provide
a level playing field
for employers and workers,
creating a true partnership for return-to-work programs.

The ERGOS Work Simulator - Overview
The
ERGOS Work Simulator uses computerized
testing components to measure physical capacity and functional capacity (Functional
Capacity Evaluation) as
they relate to work performance. Five on-line computers linked to a remote master
station computer control the ERGOS® system.
The entire system is made up of five
separate units:

Each one measures the following
areas of work performance:
Three Methods of Operation
Reliability
& Standardization
-
ERGOS® uses a color
monitor and digital voice communication at each unit to provide standardized
instructions graphically, orally and in written form.
-
The ERGOS® also provides
immediate visual performance feedback.
-
Bar code scanning technology allows
an evaluator to record standardized observations easily.
This reduces the necessity for hand-written notes.
-
The master station computer assembles
and stores all data from each of the five units.
-
A report generator built into
ERGOS® features a combination of narrative and graphic presentations
of evaluee performance. The reports give readers a clear understanding of the
performance of each worker relative to recommendations for treatment or placement.
A Truly Integrated Vocational/Medical Model
of Evaluation
-
Vocational models for service
delivery use work sampling, job tryout and psychometric testing to measure a
worker's ability to obtain and retain a specific job.
-
Medical models concentrates on
the worker's health by using the science of physiology, biomechanics and therapy.
ERGOS®
integrates these two models and adds the measurement
sciences of ergonomics and engineering. This unique combination provides the
following features:
-
A standardized and accurate method
of evaluation and work therapy
-
Equipment that measures all the
relevant physical elements used by the Department of Labor to establish its
work definitions used in the Dictionary of Occupational
Titles
-
A technique for integrating the
medical and vocational teams through evaluative, prescriptive and restorative
activities
Incorporates
National and International Standards and Guidelines
|
|
ERGOS®
features a complete listing of all jobs in the Department of Labor's
Dictionary of Occupational Titles
(DOL). This feature allows an evaluator to compare a worker's performance
to a national job standard.
|
|
|
ERGOS®
also uses Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) standards to help evaluators compare
a worker's performance to an internationally accepted, court-tested
work measurement system.
